A beginner asked me if becoming a \u201cUX engineer\u201d is a smart move. That question sounds logical, but it\u2019s actually the wrong place to focus.<\/p>\n
When you\u2019re new, you don\u2019t have the context to judge which path is better. So what happens? You try to pick the \u201cperfect\u201d role, the \u201cbest\u201d stack, or the \u201csafest\u201d niche\u2014and you end up wasting time second-guessing instead of building real skills.<\/p>\n
You\u2019re trying to make a high-level decision with low-level experience.<\/strong> That\u2019s the mistake.<\/p>\n UX engineer, frontend dev, full-stack\u2014it doesn\u2019t matter nearly as much as people think. These labels shift constantly, and companies define them differently anyway.<\/p>\n What doesn\u2019t change is the core of software development. If I were starting in 2026, I wouldn\u2019t chase a title. I\u2019d build a base:<\/p>\n That gives you real footing. From there, you can move in any direction quickly.<\/p>\n A lot of people are nervous about AI, especially in frontend and UX-heavy roles. They see tools generating interfaces and assume the job is disappearing.<\/p>\n That\u2019s not what\u2019s happening.<\/p>\n What\u2019s happening is something we\u2019ve seen for decades: the amount of code you need to write keeps shrinking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In the 90s, we wrote everything. Then frameworks showed up. Then libraries. Now AI helps generate chunks of code. Same trend, different tool.<\/p>\n The mistake is thinking coding equals software development. It doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n Coding is just one piece. The real value has been shifting toward:<\/p>\n AI can help you write code. It can\u2019t replace judgment.<\/p>\n If there\u2019s one direction that makes sense right now, it\u2019s this combination:<\/p>\n I call it \u201cAI harnessing.\u201d Not just using AI casually, but knowing how it fits into your workflow and how to guide it properly.<\/p>\n But here\u2019s the catch: without fundamentals, AI becomes a crutch. You\u2019ll generate code you don\u2019t understand, and you won\u2019t know how to fix it when it breaks.<\/p>\n With fundamentals, AI becomes a multiplier.<\/p>\n People worry they\u2019ll choose the wrong language or path and ruin their career. That\u2019s just not how this works.<\/p>\n If you learn JavaScript and later need Python, you\u2019ll pick it up fast. The core ideas transfer. Logic transfers. Problem-solving transfers.<\/p>\nTitles Don\u2019t Matter. Foundations Do.<\/h4>\n
