People get hung up on this idea that 200 hours of coding should make them \u201cjob-ready,\u201d and then they feel like they\u2019ve failed when it doesn\u2019t happen. That\u2019s the wrong expectation.<\/p>\n
Two hundred hours won\u2019t make you a pro.<\/strong> It won\u2019t even make you particularly good. What it can do\u2014if used properly\u2014is get you functional. That\u2019s the real goal early on.<\/p>\n The mistake is thinking learning to code is about reaching mastery before doing real work. That mindset leads to months, sometimes years, of spinning your wheels in tutorials.<\/p>\n Back when I started, coding was most of the job. You built everything yourself. Today, that\u2019s no longer true\u2014and AI is accelerating that shift.<\/p>\n You\u2019re not being hired just to write code. You\u2019re being hired to make decisions:<\/p>\n Coding is now just one piece of a larger puzzle.<\/strong> If you focus only on syntax, you\u2019re training for a job that barely exists anymore.<\/p>\n This is where a lot of beginners go wrong. They chase tools\u2014React, Next.js, whatever is trending\u2014without understanding the basics underneath.<\/p>\n Frameworks are what I call \u201cneed-to-nerd\u201d skills. You learn them when required. Fundamentals are \u201cmust-learn.\u201d<\/p>\n If you understand JavaScript, the DOM, HTTP, and basic architecture, you can pick up any framework quickly. Without that foundation, every new tool feels confusing and fragile.<\/p>\n Foundations give you leverage. Tools just give you temporary progress.<\/strong><\/p>\n AI is not replacing the need to understand code. It\u2019s reducing how much of it you need to write manually.<\/p>\n The real value now is in knowing how to guide AI and how to stitch systems together. Most people use AI like a fancy search engine. That\u2019s surface-level.<\/p>\n The real skill is orchestration\u2014connecting tools, chaining outputs, and building small systems that solve real problems.<\/p>\n I\u2019ll give you a simple example: I built a tool that handles sponsorship requests automatically. What used to take half an hour now takes seconds. That\u2019s not about writing clever code. That\u2019s about structuring a solution.<\/p>\n Use those first 150\u2013200 hours to get just enough skill to build simple things. Not perfect things. Not impressive things.
