The whole thing becomes unstable.<\/p>\n This is what I call the 80% trap<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Without a foundation in coding, you don\u2019t really understand what the AI is producing. You can\u2019t properly evaluate it, and you definitely can\u2019t guide it. You\u2019re reacting instead of directing.<\/p>\n So you stall out. Not because you\u2019re incapable\u2014but because you skipped the thinking part.<\/p>\n Students who learn to code properly have a completely different experience with AI.<\/p>\n They move faster, not slower. Not because they memorize more syntax, but because they understand structure. They know how to break problems down, design systems, and keep things stable as complexity increases.<\/p>\n AI becomes a tool they direct, not something they depend on blindly.<\/strong><\/p>\n That\u2019s the real advantage.<\/p>\n They can look at generated code and immediately spot issues. They know when something feels off. They can adjust, refine, and extend without the whole system collapsing.<\/p>\n That\u2019s not about being a \u201ccoder.\u201d That\u2019s about having judgment.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a misconception floating around that AI can replace developers. It can\u2019t. It generates output, but it doesn\u2019t reason through systems the way a trained developer does.<\/p>\n It doesn\u2019t understand long-term consequences. It doesn\u2019t manage complexity. It doesn\u2019t take responsibility for the result.<\/p>\n That part is still on you.<\/p>\n And if you\u2019ve never learned how software is actually built, you\u2019re going to feel that gap pretty quickly.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re thinking long term, coding is still one of the best ways to train your mind. Not because of the code itself, but because of what it teaches you about structure, logic, and systems.<\/p>\n Students who skip that and go straight to AI tools are putting themselves at a disadvantage.
