There\u2019s a big misconception floating around right now: that you can build serious software without understanding code. I get why people believe it. AI tools can carry you surprisingly far.<\/p>\n

I call it the 80% rule<\/strong>. Non-developers can get most of the way there. The interface works, the features look complete, everything feels close. Then something breaks. The logic doesn\u2019t hold, pieces don\u2019t connect properly, and suddenly you\u2019re stuck.<\/p>\n That last 20% is where all the real work lives. And without foundations, you don\u2019t know how to fix it.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, experienced developers are shipping working systems with AI. Not because AI is doing the thinking for them, but because they already understand how software fits together.<\/p>\n They know:<\/p>\n AI helps with execution. But judgment still comes from you<\/strong>. And that\u2019s the part beginners try to skip.<\/p>\n If you\u2019ve been around long enough, you\u2019ve seen this pattern before. The tools get easier, but the thinking doesn\u2019t go away.<\/p>\n In the 90s, developers wrestled with browser quirks and low-level details. Later, libraries and frameworks removed that burden. Then languages started handling things like memory for you.<\/p>\n Each step made development faster. Each step also triggered the same complaint: \u201cthis is making developers lazy.\u201d<\/p>\n AI is no different. It\u2019s another layer on top.<\/p>\n The people who benefit most are the ones who already understand what\u2019s underneath.<\/p>\n What worries me isn\u2019t AI replacing developers. It\u2019s people investing time in the wrong skills and thinking they\u2019re set.<\/p>\n If all you know is how to prompt tools, you\u2019re building on shaky ground.
