A lot of developers are stressing out, thinking AI is coming for their jobs. That\u2019s not what’s happening. What you\u2019re seeing right now\u2014especially with junior devs struggling to get hired\u2014is a market correction, not a machine takeover.<\/p>\n
For years, companies overhired. During COVID, it got worse. Standards dropped, teams bloated, and now things are tightening up. This happens in every industry. Software isn\u2019t special.<\/p>\n
Blaming AI is convenient\u2014but it\u2019s not accurate.<\/strong><\/p>\n AI looks impressive because it gets you most of the way there. A non-developer can generate an app, some scripts, maybe even something that runs. It feels like progress.<\/p>\n Then it breaks.<\/p>\n They try to fix one thing, and something else fails. They go in circles. Eventually, they give up or hand it off to a developer.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s the catch: that 80% solution is often garbage under the hood.<\/strong> The structure is wrong, the logic is messy, and fixing it can take longer than rebuilding it properly.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve seen this before. Early PHP days were full of this kind of code\u2014people building things without understanding systems. Same pattern, new tool.<\/p>\n AI doesn\u2019t reason. It works through pattern matching and association. That\u2019s useful, but it\u2019s not the same as understanding how a system should be designed.<\/p>\n Good developers bring something different: structure, boundaries, and clear thinking.<\/p>\n When you combine that with AI, you don\u2019t get replacement\u2014you get acceleration.<\/p>\n That last point matters more than people realize. AI fails quietly. If you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re looking at, you won\u2019t catch it.<\/p>\n If there\u2019s one concept you should double down on, it\u2019s this: separation of concerns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n AI works best when tasks are broken into smaller, focused steps. Try to do everything in one shot, and the output degrades fast.<\/p>\n I tested this myself. One-step content generation produced weak results. Breaking it into stages\u2014cleaning input, refining, formatting\u2014produced something close to publishable.<\/p>\n That\u2019s not an AI trick. That\u2019s just solid software design applied to a new context.<\/p>\n The easy money phase of software is gone. That\u2019s true. But there\u2019s still a lot of opportunity\u2014just not where people are looking.<\/p>\n Businesses are full of repetitive, time-consuming work. That\u2019s where AI fits. Not replacing teams, but compressing hours of effort into something much shorter.<\/p>\n If you understand systems and know how to apply AI in a practical way, you can build solutions that actually save people time.
