Just basic awareness of people, perception, and how decisions actually get made.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve seen average developers move up quickly while stronger coders stayed stuck for years. The difference wasn\u2019t code quality. It was how they handled people.<\/p>\n Forget manipulation. That\u2019s not what this is.<\/p>\n Office politics is just paying attention. Who\u2019s under pressure? What problems matter right now? What does your manager actually care about? If you can answer those questions, you\u2019re already ahead of most developers.<\/p>\n People promote and support people they trust and like working with.<\/strong> That\u2019s not unfair. That\u2019s human nature.<\/p>\n If you make someone\u2019s job easier, you become valuable very quickly. If you\u2019re difficult, even if you\u2019re brilliant, people will quietly avoid pushing you forward.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a belief in developer circles that strong code solves everything. It doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n Yes, high-level skill can carry you for a while. But it hits a ceiling. At some point, your growth depends on whether people want you in the room when decisions are made.<\/p>\n Put two developers side by side:<\/p>\n The second one usually wins. Not because the system is broken, but because work is collaborative by nature.<\/p>\n One of the best career moves I\u2019ve seen came from a guy with limited technical ability.<\/p>\n He spotted a problem his VP had, proposed a solution using new technology, and positioned himself as the person to lead it.
