The reality is that React was never the real opportunity<\/strong>. There is nothing special about the React technology – It just happened to sit in the right place at the right time.<\/p>\n Between 2017 and 2019, demand for React developers exploded. Companies were desperate, so they lowered hiring standards. Beginners got in, not because React was magical, but because supply was low and demand was high.<\/p>\n … That story is over.<\/p>\n React didn\u2019t disappear. It\u2019s still widely used.<\/p>\n What changed is the kind of tasks that used to justify hiring entry-level developers\u2014basic components, wiring things together, routine UI work\u2014are now handled by AI tools in seconds.<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t new. We\u2019ve seen this pattern before:<\/p>\n I’ve seen this more than a few times since the 1990s. So, it’<\/p>\n AI isn\u2019t removing developers. It\u2019s removing outdated tasks.<\/strong><\/p>\n The bigger problem is psychological. Juniors tend to attach themselves to tools. They think, \u201cI\u2019m a React developer,\u201d instead of understanding that tools come and go.<\/p>\n That mindset will hurt you over and over again.<\/p>\n Over a long career, you will watch entire stacks rise, dominate, and fade away. Getting emotionally tied to any of them is like getting attached to a flip phone.<\/p>\n Experienced developers don\u2019t think that way. They focus on what lasts:<\/p>\n That\u2019s the real skill set.<\/p>\n Right now, the demand spike is in AI. Not using it casually, but actually building with it.<\/p>\n That means working with APIs, chaining systems together, handling edge cases, and making sure outputs are reliable. There\u2019s real complexity there, and most people are barely scratching the surface.<\/p>\n I\u2019ll give you a simple example: I built a system to process inbound sponsorship emails. It checks the company, evaluates fit, and drafts responses. What used to take me 20 minutes now takes seconds.<\/p>\n That kind of workflow would have been painful to build before. Now it\u2019s straightforward.<\/p>\n That\u2019s where the new opportunities are\u2014at the system level, not the component level.<\/strong><\/p>\n If you\u2019re trying to break in as a developer, stop thinking that learning a framework is your path.<\/p>\n Learn enough React to be functional if a job needs it.
